Winter
Two mountains by day; sledding out the door, cross-country and snowmobile trails nearby; then the stove, the soak, the movie, the fire in the snow. Snow comes earlier and stays later up here.

A professionally designed log cabin on the edge of the Green Mountain National Forest — minutes from both Stratton and Mount Snow. Check the snow report over coffee, then drive toward the better day. And when the mountain is done with you, the movie room, the wood stove, and a fire pit beside the garden stream are waiting.
We renovate and host for the same reason: we love making beautiful spaces in beautiful places — and these mountains are the most beautiful place we know. The cabin gets a little better every season; we can't help ourselves. The waterfalls, swimming holes, and trails we've collected over years of exploring here are in the guest guide waiting for you — the spots the guidebooks miss, shared the way a friend would share them.
Outside: true log construction, a farmer's porch under string lights, gardens the hummingbirds patrol all summer. Inside: the kitchen that stops first-time guests mid-sentence — deep green cabinetry under soapstone, a black stone farmhouse sink, brass hardware, a Smeg in the corner — all beneath vaulted pine ceilings. A Vermont Castings wood stove anchors the living room. The rental market up here is condos and dated chalets; there is nothing else like this house in it.
Mount Snow about ten minutes one way, Stratton about fifteen the other. Check the report and drive toward the better day. One quiet advantage of our elevation: snow arrives earlier and lingers longer here than in the towns below.
Behind the pine paneling downstairs: projector and big screen, surround sound, bean bags, a couch built for pile-ons, foosball, and a wall of vintage Field & Stream prints. There's deliberately no TV upstairs — screens live down here, and evenings upstairs belong to the stove and the conversation.
Tucked behind the house in an evergreen shade garden, a fire pit sits beside a garden stream and reflection pool we built ourselves — one of those touches we couldn't resist. A second fire pit anchors the stone-walled front garden. The last hour of every night happens out here.
A king room, a queen room, a twin room — real beds, real doors. Two full baths, one with a deep soaking tub (the post-mountain soak is not optional). Fast WiFi that handles remote work without complaint.

No clean bedroom photos yet (king, queen, twin). The only bedroom shot has children in it and is held, not published.
No shot of the deep soaking tub yet.

This stretch of the Greens is what foliage season means. The Kelly Stand Road drive is the ride where the ride is the destination — our guide maps it.

Hidden waterfalls and swimming holes within minutes, mountain-bike trails at the rec park, a stretch of the Appalachian Trail, Somerset Reservoir and Grout Pond for paddle days. Then home to central air — which almost no Vermont cabin can offer — and a fire pit by the stream.

Mt Snow ~10 min · Stratton ~15 min · Hiking from the property into the National Forest · Grout Pond / Somerset loop · Jamaica State Park ~15 min · West Wardsboro store 5 min · Manchester ~40 min (a beautiful drive)
Cell signal is weak — that's the Green Mountains doing their job. The WiFi is fast and reliable; switch on WiFi-calling and you're covered. It's an authentic cabin: sound carries between rooms, heat is single-zone (we keep fans on and you can close a door to cool a room). The road in is dirt — never a problem, but 4x4 is a good idea December–March. Firewood provided; West Wardsboro store five minutes away.
